What Ruqyah Means and How it is Performed Correctly

In this article, we will be discussing what ruqyah means and how it is performed correctly. Ruqyah is the Islamic practice of reciting certain verses from the Qur’an to cure diseases and exorcise jinns. It is a highly blessed and beneficial act of worship that should be carried out with sincerity, piety and a firm belief in Allah. It is also necessary to avoid the many pitfalls and traps that are laid out for those who perform ruqyah, especially in this age of deception and corruption.

It is important to know that not all recitations are valid or effective for treating ailments and afflictions. The recitations used must be from the Qur’an, Sunnah and allowable supplications. Those who perform ruqyah must also have a strong relationship with Allah and avoid all the major misdeeds topped by shirk.

When reciting the ruqyah, it is recommended to use clear Arabic which is understood by the listener. The recitations should also be repeated several times so that the listener can understand and concentrate.

In addition, the recitations should not contain any indecipherable text associated with shirk and must be accompanied by a prayer for Allah’s protection and help in curing the affliction. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said that when he visited an ailing member of his family he would touch them and say, “Allahumma Rabbiyum bi arqeeki – karma, latifa, ibnid, washfi, antash-shafi, ila ma’ado.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. It is also recommended that the listener omit any animated pictures or amulets which may contain indecipherable texts and are associated with shirk. what ruqyah means
